On episode of..one of those..'this is true' TV shows, along the lines of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'; storyline followed the life of John Roberts, who was 'shanghai-ed' into being a crewman aboard a pirate ship. Having plied the seas before, knowing how to navigate, he worked, and killed, his way up to Captain of his own ship. John took on the name of Bartholmew..sp?..over a book that he read, and liked the authors name. Question is, is this how the name of 'Black Bart' begin? By giving his fellow crewmen equal shares in any bounty taken, he soon became a well respected Capt as well. Think they showed his death to be in the early 1700's (1714) on a small Island off the African coast.
