Hello. My name is Jon Anderson, Jr.  my grandfather was Herbert L Anderson, Gilbert’s brother. I met Gilbert (Gib) a few times and do remember his mother Hannah. I also met his father Luther. You would be my fathers cousin. Please let me know if you would like any other information. Jon

I located three different Gilbert Andersons on the 1940 census, all living in Jamestown, Chatauqua, New York:  one born c 1888, wife Mabel E; one born c 1906, wife Hazel; one born c 1911, wife Jeanne.  Is one of these your father?

There also are multiple ones on the 1920 census in Jamestown.  So more information would be helpful if you've got any...

My father did not leave anything behind other than a name. No birthdate, etc. I am currently waiting for DNA results from Ancestry labs, and hope this will help.

O.K.  With that information, we can narrow it down.  I would say that he was the son of Luther H. and Hannah C. Anderson, appearing on the 1920 census in Jamestown, Chatauqua, New York with them and his siblings:

If you have access to ancestry.com, there's a family tree on there going back about three generations.  It has Gilbert as the son of Luther Anderson and Hannah Berggren (daughter of John Berggren and Matilda Tundell).  Luther's mother was from Sweden, as were Hannah's parents.  That tree shows that, besides Gilbert's wife Jeanne, he was married to Alta Mary Meek (1921-2010).  They had a son.

You can trace some of Gilbert's siblings shown on the above census records to locate potential cousins.  It looks like Florence married Carl Allison and Genevieve married Charles O'Block.  Good luck!
