Hey WikiTreers-time for another round of Notable Knockouts!

In an effort to improve our Notables profiles, we're starting up a weekly challenge called "Notable Knockouts".

Each Thursday we'll post two Notables profiles that are in need of some major TLC.

To be considered a knockout the profile has to:

  • Have a detailed biography with in line citations (a bio that isn't copied from somewhere else).
  • Have quality sources from somewhere other than just Wikipedia.
  • Have at least one image.
  • Be connected to the Global Tree.

Bonus improvements, if you want to go above and beyond, could include things like:

  • Editing the person's Wikipedia profile to include links to their WikiTree profile.
  • Add WikiTree ID to WikiData
  • Adding relevant categories and/or templates.
  • Adding to their family connections.

Once a profile reaches Knockout status, we have a nifty Notable Knockouts template we can add to the comments section.

The Challenge: We want to make this fun so we thought we'd try having teams. Each profile is posted as an answer below. If you want to work on Team Berra, post under that answer. If you want to work on Team Cobb, post under that answer. Each "team" can communicate there about who is working on what part of the profile. Yay, collaboration!

Team members that work on the profile that reaches Knockout status first will get a fun template in the comments section of their profiles.

Note: The profile that doesn't win will move on to compete in the next Knockout!

Last week's contenders were John Lennon and JD Salinger, and both were improved and completed, with Team Lennon taking the Knockout, so we're starting with two new contenders this week!

The two contenders in the ring are baseball greats:

Yogi Berra

and

Ty Cobb

Added sources and his first wife.
I added a couple of sources that could be used to flesh out the biography under the "see also"
I've improved his biography a bit and added both wives and 3 of his 5 children.
Thanks Scott and Lucy! His profile is looking much better.
Added Society for American baseball research article link, Georgia Encyclopedia link.  Cleaned up sources: encased html in [] for neatness.  Added "The Narrows" to biography for birth place.

Added the 1930 and 1940 censuses, a newspaper article which mentions his marriage, his Find A Grave page, and the cemetery category.
I also added his wife, Carmen Short.
I also added a link to a military Web page, and added his parents.
Thanks, Elisabeth!
