Yes please.

I have been searching for the Matthew Lowe story. Just posted a story about a Lowe condemned by Hopkins as a witch!

My idea was because of a family condemned , others fled to Bahamas for freedom. I seem to have family members who are devout and ordained.

Thank you
I'd love to join!
I joined and have had no collaborate with project managers.

I suggest that a menu of activities begun by leaders should be posted to follow leads and discoveries .

Doing so

People like myself can follow the process and all of us can see and comment on activities!

Now all I see are the numbers of assesses to my profile but not sharing the processes.

If someone would like to show me where I am missing this information in case I am unaware of its exsistance.
Hello Linda,

Most people with ancestry from the Bahamas are using

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BahamasGenealogyGroup/info

I recommend you join that group and post some messages there.

Sincerely, Peter
Yes please :D
I'd like to join as I'm looking for information on the McHardy, Robinson, Mather, and Burrow families.
I would love to join. I just did my ancestry test and found out my birthfathers family is from the bahamas. I still have no idea who he is but i do know that my great grandparents are gerald bethel and emily sands bethel.

SO hoping to get more info on their families.
This is such a tiring search. But I am going to keep going until I find what I am looking for. My Great Grandfather was Benjamin Walker. He was born on Feb 15 1869 in Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas. He immigrated to Key West FL Mar 1 1889. I am in search of who his parents were and grandparents. I have taken 23andme as well as ancestry DNA. 23andme has lead me to the family names of The Sands, and Albury's, I've found books written about the Sands and Albury's of the Bahamas and yet, I have not found how Walker's came about or who my great grandfather was. I'd love to know more. If ANYONE can help me out with this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I would like to join the project. My paternal side is Russell and so far census documents point to the Key West / Bahamas Russell family.

Hello 7th Cousin Linda,

I notice that you have a recent Higgs ancestor from Bermuda. My first cousin once removed, Catherine Ceruti Higgs married Frederick J. Higgs on Ragged Island, The Bahamas.

Unfortunately, we know nothing about Frederick's ancestry. Do you think that your Higgs ancestor and Frederick J. Higgs might be related? Did they all come from England originally? As you can see from Frederick's profile, we are trying to solve (another) family mystery. Any light you could shed would be helpful.
Ye. I’m interested

I don't want to join as such, but I do have some information on the Clapp family who moved there in the mid-19th century I'll be entering in the next month. I might need to get in touch if I have trouble verifying dates.

Can you give me suggestions on how to do research from home online or at local LDS.
by Melani Pitsios G2G1 (1.3k points)
You can find Bahamian records on Familysearch.org online.  Just be careful because there are so many names that were used repeatedly among and between families it is easy to confuse them.  The dates are also sometimes off a bit.  You can use the sources, but if not sure it applies put a cautionary note in the profile's biography explaining your concerns.

Thank you, what  I meant to say was other than LDS/familysearch.org.  What can you do from home specifically for Bahamas research.  I am  trying to decide between a subscription to Ancestry or My Heritage.  Would either have relevant documents?

I think I have exhausted what they have available online to view from home at familysearch.  I know I need to order films from Utah on loan to my local LDS, but there must be some sort of method I could employe rather than throwing a dart at the catalog page.

All this work on naming "traditions" in the Bahamas will only help prepare me for research on my Dad's line in Greece ("Nick, Nick, Nick, & Nick" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dyujnqFuBo )

Try checking out themonumentalarchiveproject.com  it is a lot of information to go through, Parrish records for baptism, marriage and burials but well worth it. I know they have Barbados but not sure about sites for other islands.
Melani, you can also us the Bahamian Dolly Mae Records which are now oline.  If I remember correctly, it is $25 a year.

I would like to collaborate.  Most of what I know came from Mom's notes or Dolly Mae.  Hope Town.  Roberts, Russell, Malone, Albury.  Unfortunately, my genealogy energy comes in waves rather than a steady stream.

Yes. I'm descended via Darville and Knowles and many other well known surnames earlier in the family tree. Cartwrights etc.

Victor,

Welcome to WikiTree and the Bahamas Project! I looked, and there are already profiles for your grandparents, Thomas Victor Lowe and Marguerite Cates, so it will be easy for your to connect to the main tree. You just need to create a profile for your father, and then connect him to his parents. BTW, I am also a descendant of of Capt. Gideon Lowe ;-)

Hello W. Wallace,

Thank you for being willing to collaborate with other members of WikiTree's Bahamas project.

Unfortunately you were not logged into G2G when you posted and so I'm unable to determine if you are a WikiTree member or what your WikiTree ID is if you are a member.  If I know your WikiTree ID then I can add a Bahamas badge to your profile.

Please repost while logged in.  Thanks and sincerely, Peter
Hello W. Wallace, You are not the only one with brick walls in Bahamas lines. I would like to know more about my great grandfather, Theodore Ceruti, who was married on Ragged Island. However, my father told me that his father did not want to talk about his ancestors or his origin. We never found out why. There are some secrets lurking among the past eras waiting to be discovered but to find them is a daunting task.

I am so happy to find this link.  My paternal grandmother is the start of my Bahamian roots.  I look forward to growing this tree and the Wiki "main" tree.  Thank you for your consideration.
