Born to Sarah Ann Hunt and Harvey Marcelius Bright. Harvey abandoned Sarah, J.L. and  daughter. J.L. took last name of Crowder which was Sarah's second husbands  name. J.L. married M.J. Parton in Loudon County, Tn and about 10 years later married Viry Curtis in Monroe County, Tn.
