Find And Replace

I added new possibility to replace one text in location into another. It uses Automatically suggested corrections. It is available on Wikitree+ in Search section Replace Location item.

Example to change Virginia, British Colonial America to Virginia Colony[1]

selected by William Foster
I added check for empty replace text.

I might add some partial matching

That would be great. Maybe implement wildcards?

It would enable me to change "*d Holland, Netherlands" to "*d-Holland, Nederland" (with the *-part copied to the replacement string of course). So I could then correct all cities with either "Noord Holland" or " Zuid Holland" as province name and Netherlands as country name to Noord-Holland, Nederland c.q. Zuid-Holland, Nederland.

"*d Holland, Netherlands" would not work. Initially I do a Full text search to get only profiles that might match the condition. FTS is whole word based. So you would have to use 2 searched.

I will probably add ends with functionality.

Thanks Aleš, I understand.

Yes, by the previous correct button I did mean "608 error and Correct button" That is what I used to fix many misspelled locations. Now I have used the new correct function to fix misspelled irland to Ireland and it work good.
I used Location Find and Replace and noticed an oddity in the number of display items. Total found was 40 profiles. first display was 0/3, next was 1/3, next was 2/3, next was 3/3. I expected it to first have 1/4, etc.
I'm trying more searching and it not find the expected results. For Example locations db error 604 there are many with Ill. When I put in the search of Ill the result is 8 items but the list is missing profiles like Mc_Cormick-93. Since the font does not let me tell exactly what the letters in the birth place are - they could be iii or lll or Ill - I used cut and paste to copy the letters but still the location find and replace does not pull up Mc_Cormick-93 or others that appear to have the same value. I suppose cut and paste may change the string in some subtle way.

Increase the number of Max Profiles: and it should find more. I will have to correct this.

I made this count zero based, since indexes for computers are usually 0 based. I can correct display to human representation 1 based.
Find and replace updated. Read comment in latest news.

Clean-A-Thon

This week we have 69304 less errors than last week. Good work.

Detailed statistics are available on Wikitree+ in Statistics section.

by Aleš Trtnik G2G6 Pilot (796k points)
Aah-choo!  Seems that we stirred up some dust with the clean-a-thon.  We had been running about 8,000 to 10,000 "new" errors per week prior, but this time the count is up to almost 19,000.  However from a random sampling, many of these were existing profiles with existing errors that were reflagged as "new" errors presumably because the profiles were editted/improved but not fully fixed in the clean-a-thon.
What percentage of the tree do you suppose is consistent in the sense of having no errors and complete in the sense of being correctly documented from birth to death?
Paul,

This is true only for changing LNAB and merging.
Also a week was longer for 2 days..
Ian,

I have no idea. I also can't check that, since I don't parse all sources. Maybe in a year or two, we will know.

The error report is not displaying newly entered status data for the past 2 days.  Also the hidden link at the top is not working on the wiki+ page.

If you need specific examples let me know.   We use this to keep track of the ones we have finished vs the ones that still need work, so it would be great if this could get fixed.

Thanks for everything you do!

I restarted the servr. Missing new comments were corrected yesterday.
Thanks!  Appreciate it!

Am I the only one that is missing the icons for the security status (lock color in column 9) and tree symbol (column 2). The tree one doesn't bother me, I rarely use it and the link appears to be functional. But the lock one is a real headache. I end up clicking through to a profile only to discover that its security is going to prevent any corrections being made.

Is this just me or something on the server side?

Which view are you using? I still get the lock on the static weekly-update view as well as on the dynamic WikiTree+ view. I'm not on a mobile or tablet. Are you?
Not on mobile or tablet, using a Win10 laptop. I'm not sure what the view is called, it's the one you get when choosing error report from a profile menu. Just checked to give you a link to the one I'm looking at and *sigh* they're there now. Apparently this is a me issue. Thanks Eva.

Just a suggestion:

I happen to be working in a huge mess of fabricated profile. More than 1500 completely fanciful profiles.

Most of them raise "benign" errors such as locations in allcaps. I've seen that some of them were fixed during the Clean-a-thon.

Would it be possible to avoid flagging such errors for profiles with the {{Uncertain Existence}} / {{Questionable}} template? (these automatically put profiles in special categories). I think it's a pity to use energy to make profiles that are bogus anyway looks nice.

Thanks for all the hard work!
