Was Bartholomew Taliaffero knighted?

Death:	Sep. 22, 1601, England
musician in the Royal Court, buried in St. Olave's, Harte Street, London
Burial: St Olave Hart Street Churchyard  London Greater London, England

I have read references which refer to Bartholomew Taliaffero as Sir Bartholomew Taliaffero.  Is there any evidence to support the title "Sir?"  Is this an assumption based upon his employment as a musician in the Royal Court?

       He's not listed as a Knight of the garter (1348-present day). i checked the list at

http://www.heraldica.org/topics/orders/garterlist.htm#list

which is a List of the Knights of the Garter, 1348-present
