completely overwhelmed by the number of "links" unrelated to my search!

I came here to find info about my father who I know very little about. In order to fill out a form I was encouraged to add my mother's name. (Neither my father's or mother's name show up on my tree.) Now I get so many "links" about people totally unrelated to my search. It is impossible to sort through them.

When you say links are you referring to the list of possible matches? If so, then just ignore the ones that are clearly way off. Take a quick look at those that are close to see if they could mean that the person you are trying to add already has an existing profile on Wikitree. When you find an existing profile then it saves you the work of creating a new one.

Naida, to expand a little bit on Lynda's answer, Moore would be a fairly common surname (as evidenced by your ID number), so you could expect to find a lot of potential matches if your father's given name was also fairly common.  Same would go for your mother.  But to get the right parents into your own family tree, you would need to either find already existing profiles of your parents and connect yourself to them, or if you can't find a match, create new profiles for your parents. Then you go from there and start adding grandparents, siblings, etc.  If you create new profiles for your parents, and discover later that their profiles were already here, then it becomes a matter of merging the duplicates.

I believe you are talking about the "Tags" you are following -- which, if I recall correctly, was required in order to sign-up here -- and the "links" you get in the daily emails for following those tags.

By "following" those surname tags, you will now get a daily email showing what other people have been doing recently to those same surnames in their family (just in case there's some overlap, and you are related to them -- or if someone edits your close relatives when they are also related).

There may be a way to turn off those emails, I don't remember, but maybe not. If so, you can still find that same information, if you're interested, by selecting "Family Activity Feed" and/or "Wiki Genealogy Feed" from your "My WikiTree" menu at the top of the page.

Otherwise, just ignore those emails.
