Is there a way to add a comment to an unmerged match explaining why a merge should not be done at this time? [closed]

Can't wait!  This will be a really good addition.  Of course, I know that none of you has had anything to do recently, but I am looking forward to this addition.

Oh you know, we just hang by the beach sipping umbrella drinks laugh

My part of it is on my  to-do list for this week. Promise!

Nudge nudge.
Shove, shove!
*falls over*
So, my proposal part is done and I promise this is still high up on the to-do list but at the moment the main priority of our tech guys is a major site re-design to make it more current, more like our homepage.  Which is exciting!  And coming soon!

kick!  devil

Ouch!
But I was wearing my fuzzy bunny slippers!!
AND NOW I'M DANCING THE HAPPY DANCE!! (can't you just see that in my bunny slippers?)

These changes went into effect today!

1.) When you propose a merge, in addition to the comment being
e-mailed to the profile manager(s), it's now also posted on the
bulletin board of profile #2 (the profile that's proposed to be the
merged-in one, as opposed to the merged-away one). The comment is
linked from the history items that get connected to the profiles, so
it's accessible from various activity feeds.

2.) When you reject a match or create an unmerged match when there was
a proposed merge (as opposed to from FindMatches, search results, an
index, etc.) you are required to include a comment of explanation.
This comment is posted on profile #2, e-mailed to the managers, and
linked from history items.

The subject lines of the various e-mail messages will look like this:
Merge of Sample-4 and Sample-2 proposed
Merge of Sample-4 and Sample-2 rejected
Merge of Sample-4 and Sample-2 postponed
Merge of Sample-4 and Sample-2 completed

3.) When you remove a merge proposal/reject/match, you're required to
confirm the action with a second step.

Awesome!  Great additional tools!!
Great!  I just got mhy first Postponed notice. I like what I see.

Wonderful....
now, the question is.....do we want to leave all those messages on the profile bulletin board?    It might be helpful in some cases and a distraction in others..

YAY!!! But I guess I better be careful what I say in those merge proposals! cheeky

If the messages are of value then leave them on the bulletin board.

if the profile is open, over 200 year old, any full member can EDIT the profile and put a note in it to that effect.

Is that privacy=Open, or profile birth date > 200 years ago? The two are not quite the same thing any more. New profiles over 100 years old are now being created with Privacy=Open, which by definition can be edited by anybody who has signed the honor code. Also, comments (notes) can be added by anybody to any profile, even if they don't have permission to edit.

I usually put a note in the bulletin board for the profiles....

Robin, I do this as well, in the absence of any other option. But an explanation box associated with the merge process itself would be (ideally) visible during the match/merge process. Many of us have found that arborists are not reading comments or narrative on the profile pages before completing merges. I've been guilty of this myself.
Jillaine,   I agree that there is room for improvement in how we can draw attention to or understand why a merge has not been completed.    And, I think it would help with some of the members who are busy and use the unmerged match as a holding pattern even if there is nothing in question.
Has anything else happened with this idea? I agree. When some are merging they don't see the message box. Having something totally obvious on the split screen when comparing two profiles would be extremely helpful! Anyway to put this idea into action?

Problem with using the message box is someone could delete it not realizing the importance of the message.
