Wondering if there is a connection between the Schamps in Hunterdon and Somerset counties and my family, the Schamps of Warren County - Washington, Mansfield, Port Murray, Hackettstown, German Valley (Long Valley), and Blairstown New Jersey . The paternal line I have starts with John Schamp (dates unknown), father of John O. Schamp (1835-1885), father of John Fletcher Schamp (1858-1912, father of William Schamp (1895-1972), father of George A. Schamp (1916-1950).  Thank you for any help with this search.

I am still researching this. As far as John O Schamp, I think that the death year of John O is inaccurate. The census for 1880 shows his wife Eliza as widowed, which would make his death at least 5 years earlier than 1885. (I do see a death record stating 1885 for a John O Schamp, but perhaps it is a different one?).
I tried replying to your email comment of November 23 but you probably did not get it.  This website is confusing to me so far, but there is hope!  I registered as a guest so lets see if you get this.  My information on John O Schamp comes from two sources.  Http://www.findagrave.com (Port Murray, NJ) led me from John Fletcher Schamp to his mother, Elizabeth A Perry Schamp Beam.  On her page is listed her first husband, John O Schamp.  The http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com pages on John O Schamp give his birth year as about 1834 and his dod as 1885.  The connected pages for his marriage to Elizabeth Ann Perry list the groom's (John O's) father's name as John Schamp and the mother's name as Mary.  That is as far as I have gotten so far.  I hope this is helpful.  Thank you again, Bruce

Bruce,

I did not get you email, I apologize. I had placed what I found so far on here. You can find

John O Schamp at the following address: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schamp-98, his son William Schamp at the following address: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schamp-96,

and his son George here: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Schamp-95.

I hope to find more about this family as I am sure there must be a conncection between your Schamps and my Schamps (as it is not a common name). You may want to look at the information on Pieter des Champs (Schamp) at the following address: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Des_Champs-1.

You can visit my page: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Norman-1065 to send me a direct message.

I am a descendant of the Hunterdon, NJ Schamps. I have quite a bit of information on this family from my great aunt who has been researching our genealogy. I would love to help you try to see if there is a connection.
