It looks like his first wife Polly Morse died.  Marriage to ___ Adams show her first name as 'Polly' in Northbridge records and 'Olive' in Hubbardston records.

There's much "confusion" or potential for surrounding Daniel J. Elliot re: his wives.

     First scenario:

Some records mention that his wife, Olive Louise Adams, was his second marriage, which produced only 2 children, Jotham Porter Eliot, Sr. and Harvey Elliot.

I have seen it written online once as Olive "Polly" Louise Adams. I don't have any knowledge that Polly was a common nickname for Olive, such as "Peggy" was for Margaret, but if that is the case, the the nickname of Polly would serve to further call into question Polly Morse, perhaps. However, Polly Morse(1st wife to Daniel J. Elliot bore only one child, Sila Elliot.

Daniel J. Elliot then married his third wife(1st cousin), Ruth Elliot after Olive Louise Adams' death ~1803, and proceeded to have 11 more children.

     Second scenario:

Olive Louise Adams did not die ~1803, but died~1859 and bore the majority of Daniel J. Elliot's children.

The confusion of death dates for Olive Louise Adams is based upon a writing of the family history by Olive Louise Adams, which mentions that the family relocated to NH in 1824. Clearly Olive Louise Adams could not have any knowledge of this relocating in 1824 or written of it if she had died in 1803. It all comes down to how accurate the record keeping was by those individuals in the days of yore.

I have not yet verified/corrected any of these claims, yet.

There are records/claims of a Ruth Elliot marrying David Elliot(son of Jonathan Elliot III) in 1803.

While polygamy is not unheard of, these dates/details would conflict based upon further details of Ruth Elliot gave birth ~two months apart to children of Daniel J. Elliot and David Elliot, physically impossible.

There are other Ruth Elliots in the same family tree records, but their birth dates make it impossible to be married to either men.

Alot of the information listed above is taken from EXTENSIVE research from a  Steven R. Elliott that he has posted online in downloadable html webpages. Virtually all of the info he has posted that I have had an opportunity to review/research, so far, I have been able to verifiy and found to be correct, but I have just been researching my genealogy for a few years, so....  And as you probably know, the Elliot family name alone is extremely large. (I  think we must be part rabbit). Unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of discussing any info with Steven or his descendants.

I have obtained several records(actual scans of census, marriage, or birth), but not enough to disprove/correct, with any certainty, either scenarios above to my mind.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

And yes, there's far too many Daniels in this damn tree! :D

Your second scenario is the more accurate.  Olive was sister to my ancestor, Moses Adams.  Another sister, .Sally Adams, married another Elliot(t), Jonathan Jr, and they also can be found first in Hubbardston MA  and later in NH.  I have been tracing the migrations of all the siblings, who begin in Hubbardston, and then many go to Croydon NH.  My ancestor and several of his siblings then go to Peru VT, where some remain.  Many of the girls remain in NH, but in other towns.  Olive did not die in Croydon in 1803.  I suspect a daughter of that name did.  Olive lived to have many more children with Daniel.  Their family can be traced to Rumney NH.  I believe I have found her death in Newport Quebec, which is just north of Vermont in the eastern townships of Quebec.  Her children include a few with names that are easily identifiable as being of our Adams family --- her mother was an Alden.  Alden Elliott was b. 1812 in Lebanon NH, died  1885 in Rumney.  Son Obed Quincy Elliot bears two obvious Adams names  - Obed was also Olive's youngest brother's name, and it continues through the family for several generations.  Quincy is a clear connection to the president who was a traceable but distant cousin. Her brother Moses also used the Quincy name as a middle name for his son, my GGGF.  Polly is obviously not a nickname for Olive.  It is a nickname for Mary.  I think that record was just an error with the scrivener confusing Olive with the first wife.  The youngest child I have found is named King Hiram Elliot.  I don't associate that name with the Adamses, but suspect it is a Freemason name.  I would suggest further research may find the Elliots were Freemasons.   Olive outlived her husband by two decades.  i assume she went to Canada, just over the border from VT to live with one of her children in her old age.  I have found King Hiram in northern Vermont near the Canadian border after that time (Eden VT, ,Hyde Park VT),so i suspect he may have been the child who cared for his mother in her later years.  However, I have a list of 7 boys and no girls, so I think I may not have daughters' names.  I have been working on my Adams family for many years, but never spent much time on the siblings until more recently.  That has been very rewarding, to see how families sometimes migrate together, and clumps stay together.     I hope this helps you with respect to Olive Adams Elliot.
Thanks for your input, Carolyn.

A Dr. Henry A. Elliott made the claim that Olive Louise Adams was a cousin to President John Adams. It's interesting to see you mention that connection, as well.  I haven't begun to explore the Adams family connection in detail, yet, but have recorded a number of Adams being married to Elliott's. Perhaps we could be of assistance to one another regarding this familial connection. I'm more than willing to give you any info I have. Please let me know.

For those of you researching the Elliot/Elliott name, you may want to do a Google search for Hugh Edwin Elliott, Sr. Family home page.

I'm not sure if it is accessible doing a search like this, but I actually stumbled upon it years ago. I was able to download the entire site with complete active links. As a result, I was able to unearth well over hundreds of families and over 1000  names. The amount of time and information that either Steven Elliott and/or Hugh Edwin Elliott has compiled is extremely impressive.

I, unfortunately, only became interested in genealogy when my mother, Karen Verne Webber, passed in 2012. It was disheartening to discover that my mom had a first cousin that she never knew of living only about an hour from her.

I am more than willing/hoping to help any others to find connections with the Elliot/Elliott line and in doing so, add to my further fleshing out my researching.

I live in Maryland and frequently travel into PA to visit my brother. I plan/hope to make a trip later this year to a number of cemeteries in PA to take hi-res photos of grave markers, obtain scans of cemetery records regarding my family, etc.

Happy hunting.

Daniel Elliott
Yes, there is a known cousinship between my line (Olive's) and the two presidents.  Henry Adams of Braintree is the name of the genealogy done in the late 1800s, which shows the two lines very clearly -- Olive and I come from Edward, who I think was the 7th son of Henry.  The presidents come from Joseph, an older son.  So it isn't particularly close, but they all knew of it as they didn't live that far apart, and they would certainly have known of the famous cousins.   My dad's Ydna was used to prove the presidential line, as his father was in the Henry Adams book, and matched another distant cousin whose father was also in the book.  If you go to FTdna, and look up the Adams DNA project, you will see the people who match the Presidential line also match my dad.
