Scottish Clans

Question

I have heard that I am a part of the Cameron clan.  I do have Cameron relatives that immigrated from Scotland to New York.  How do I go about proving that my Camerons were part of Clan Cameron?  Are all Scottish men with the last name automatically part of the clan?  What sources do those studying Scottish Clans use for their research?

Hi Kristen  we have a great resource page on WikiTree for researching Scottish Clans or anything Scottish  ,in our Scottish Clan Project all the men with last name of say cameron would be part of clan Cameron  have a look at the resource page and if you would like to join the project just let me know Terry
