Pending merges: "You can complete this merge."

Question

Just curiousity, really --

Looking at the pending merges list, there are some that say, below the approvals, "You can complete this merge."  These are not merges I proposed, or profiles that I'm involved with.

Usually the merge has not yet been completed by the managers as there are further merges of parents to be done first, you can check this with the compare link, there may be a message near the top right saying compare fathers, mothers or both.

this is a good thing; however, attempted to compare some tonight only to find they had been merged back in November!   How long do they stay on the list?
