Douglas, you're pretty new to WikiTree. WT differs from most other genealogy sites in its twin goals of creating one single family tree with millions of branches, and in creating accurate, well-sourced genealogies. When you get to ancestors who lived pre-1500, the sources available are fewer and fewer, and likely more suspect. It is more difficult to separate the reliable sources from the unreliable ones, and way more time consuming. In order to work on those profiles, one needs to demonstrate that they have experience in handling these more difficult cases, and have shown the ability to NOT jump to a conclusion without supporting evidence. This requirement helps advance our goal of practicing accurate genealogy, and setting WikiTree apart from other sites which contain thousands of unquestioned and erroneous ancestor connections.
I've been here in WT for nearly two years, and am only pre-1700 certified, and, I do not yet feel qualified for pre-1500 files. I haven't found ancestors of mine earlier than the early 1600s. If I do, I might feel inclined to pursue pre-1500 qualification.
