Question

I'm new to WikiTree but not genealogy. I created a profile for myself, signed the Honor Code, and uploaded a GEDCOM of over 3000 people. 

GEDCOMpare gives me 646 suggested matches to consider.  

Do I have to accept or reject ALL 646 suggested matches before I can Add new people from my GEDCOM?

OK.  I reviewed almost all of the 646 suggested matches and have been able to confirm 164 matches so far.  However, although some suggestions look promising, they do not have enough detail (or are marked as private) to match or reject.  What do I do about them?  Must I reject them in order to move on?

I also refreshed my list (was that a mistake?).  GEDCOMpare gave me a new list of possible matches.  So far I have rejected a total of 936 suggestions with 99 left to review.  If I complete the remaining 99, can I then start adding those from my tree that have no suggestions?  Or do I have to keep refreshing until who knows when?

This is getting very laborious!  I am ready to add those of my family tree that GEDCOMpare doesn't provide suggestions for.  How can I do this?

Yes, I'm afraid you do. You might want to consider creating several smaller gedcom files, at least at first. For additional information on working with gedcom on WikiTree, see Gedcom Help.

It would probably be a good idea. It could save you a lot of work and cut down on risk of duplication. It doesn't really take that long to do it. You might be surprised as how much is already here. And you will need to go through all your gedcom entries to check for duplicates, clean up the imports and so on. I'm still trying to clean up my tree, and yet I go down the rabbit hole and start researching so I have unsourced or undersourced profiles all over, and waiting for merges etc. But have fun, ask for help and join projects that are part of your family.
