French Roots Project April update

Time for our monthly update!

Last month we had a focus on Notable Women, in honor of women's history month. I'm very proud to say that thanks to solid team work, all the suggested ladies we hoped to work on now have a profile and some family linked! There were also major breakthroughs with the connections of Simone de Beauvoir (thank you, Kyla and Greg!) and Simone Veil. Thank you to Jeanette (for working on Geneviève de Gaulle-Anthonioz) and Emma (introducing the marvellous Marie Marvingt).

Since the Clean-a-Thon is going to keep many busy for most of the month, we'll have a "light" theme this month: Primp up your Départements pages!

Or you could support this month's Notables themes - Authors, Journalists, books - just pick one of the French Authors profiles needing improvement.

Or, to keep with this month's clean-up theme, there is still plenty of work with the project's suggestions list.

I know I forgot some of you in this summary, so A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all you project members who've worked quietly on sourcing, on cleaning up ancestors, and generally growing the tree.

I connected poet Arthur Rimbaud and French-born composer Edgard Varèse earlier this month.  I'll continue working on adding Rimbaud's Ardennais ancestors during the remainder of the month, in addition to improving my department pages.

Merci beaucoup :)

I'd love to see some more of my favorite French actors get connected. I'm a big fan of French cinema. Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil, Alain Delon, etc.

Thanks for you work on the Rimbaud family and all the work you've done this month, Greg.

@Jessica here is the profile for Isabelle Adjani - there does not seem to be any profiles yet for the other actors you mention, but you'll find them in the César and Acteurs categories.

I think I’ll just keep chipping away at that Chappelier lineage that needs sourcing and then try to repair suggestions during the clean-a-Thon

Thank you Kyla. And thanks for the work on Alexandre Dumas and Simone de Beauvoir's profiles - the result is impressive!

I have been chipping away at the France suggestions list. I hope to finish Marvingt, but I have a feeling, due to the CAT, this won't happen until May. I also have on my list of things to do--to add a long list of notable French doctors to WikiTree that I have done an enormous amount of prior research on. Soon I hope!

I recently received an answer on the Simon family of glassmakers.  I understand there is a full article in one of the magazines I have.  I just need to find in which box I have it!   (had to box of whole library for work being done in the house... I am in much disarray!   Will post that once I get to the right magazine.

I also updated the Moselle page.   Take a look and let me know if what I did is ok.   I could not see a way to add the map images but the urls are there for the maps.

Thanks Laura! The Simon family should be attached to Françoise Gilot - who is now connected, so it will be nice to add them without worrying about connections.

I've tried to help with the images on the Moselle page (now converted to a free-space page). Tell me what you think? I love the contents you've put in there.

Thanks Isabelle!  I will take a look at it and figure out which image and try to add it.  I think I will create a few pages to link in with some general glass and crystal making info.

I forgot to answer my own message last month, so here goes:

I was very proud of finally connecting Simone Veil last month, as her tree was not the easiest to construct.

It looks like most of my work was connecting Notables, and I did manage to catch:

  1. Hippolyte Dreyfus-Dreyfus : brother-in-law of Natalie Clifford Barney, he is marginally notable in his own right, for his writings on Baha'ism.
  2. Augustin Fresnel (inventor of the Fresnel lens), with his brothers and his cousin, Prosper Mérimée
  3. Paul Cézanne
  4. Alfred Sisley
  5. President Alexandre Millerand (a follow-up after connecting Dreyfus-Barney)
  6. and, last but not least, Alexandre Dumas!

These last few days I've been working on a connection for Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, which hopefully will show up tomorrow.

I've been off Wiki since last week, dealing with a nasty cold, I'm continuing work on the families of Saint-Barthélemy.
