Thomasine Fry was according to her profile born in Weymouth, Dorset, England on 29th February 1612 . Baptisms for Weymouth would have taken place in Melcombe Regis (no Weymouth parish church) or perhaps Radipole however, there is no corresponding baptism.

.She was according to the profile,  the daughter of a William Fry  born Pi[m]perne , Weymouth ,Dorset (sic) Pimperne and Weymouth are two different places about 30 miles apart  and  his wife ,Sarah Hill of Lyme Regis,Dorset.

According to the will of  Sarah's  father James Hill  (link to freespace page) written  in 1620, Sarah Fry had at the time  of writing, three children, Tristram, William and Mary. No Thomasine is mentioned.

However,  a William Fry, gent of Otehill (Oathill) ,Crewkerne, Somerset wrote his will on the 12th March 1624/5 ( link to free space page)  He was buried 2 days later. It is a very short will, probably written in extremis with deliberate gaps in the scribes copy.It wasn't probated for a year. Crewkerne  is only about 12 miles from Lyme Regis, Sarah Hill's home.

William Fry made his wife and son Tristram executors, left money for the maintenance of son William who was under 21, money for maintenance of a young son Henry and for an unnamed daughter  who was also under 21. Probate was granted to the relict Sara and to son Tristram.

I think that is is highly probable that this is the family of Sarah Hill and  William Fry and  that there was no daughter Thomasine.

However, there are several Fry entries in the Crewkerne registers. There seems to an older Tristram and also a John  who was the father of several children including

"Thomasen the daughter of John Fry of the p’__ baptised the iijrd day " (January 1611/12)

Could this John also have children named William and Mary? If they were all related it would not be out of the question, and may explain the wills of William and Mary?

Here on the other side of the Atlantic, I searched for information about Thomasine on the New England Historic Genealogical Society website and got a few search results:

  • Two researcher's queries seeking information about her, which I uploaded to https://www.wikitree.com/photo/png/Fry-611 and https://www.wikitree.com/photo/png/Fry-611-1
  • A memorial for a historical society member named John Meigs, who died in 1905. According to the memorial, he traced his ancestry to Vincent Meigs, through Vincent's son John Meigs (1612-1671/2) "who married Thomasine Fry of Weymouth, England."
  • Torrey's New England Marriages to 1700 has (Volume 2, page 1024):

MEIGS, John (1612-1671/2) & Tamsen/Tamazine/Thomasin/Tamazin [FRY], sis William; by 1632; Weymouth/Guilford, CT {McCormick-Hamilton 1048; Bassett-Preston 129; Bennett etc. (1931) 33; Benton-Bishop 45, 53; TAG 12:45; Reg. 84:318; Weymouth 2:44, 255; [additional source citations not copied]

-- In this context "Weymouth" refers to Weymouth, Massachusetts

So it seems there's decent evidence that the wife of John Meigs was Thomasine Fry, sister of William Fry, plus at least some sort of family tradition that says she was from Weymouth. The notion that she was daughter of William Fry and Sarah Hill might derive from evidence for the brother. Is there a record for the brother's birth or baptism (see his profile for alleged dates)?

The will of William Fry (the source that connects him to a sister named Meigs, mentioned in one of the researchers' queries) also connects him to sister Mary (Fry) Harris, whose will also references a "brother Meggs" (probably assumed to be Thomasine's husband).
