Is Valentine Martin (1710-1760) a French Hugenot, or descendant?

Family tradition says Valentine Martin was a French Hugenot, however, no one knows how.  The present line of Valentine Martin-Martin Martin-Thomas Martin-John Martin  does not seem to suppot this rumor.

I have just re-checked my Ancestry tree, and have confirmed that Etienne Martin is my 5th Great Uncle. His father was Rene dit Barnabe Martin, my 5th Great Grandfather. I will research further to see if I can add/find more information on my direct ancestors. My father's surname was Martin, born in Canada and emigrated to the USA in the mid-1900's (so was my mother). He always knew there was indian ancestry in his family tree; but could not say for sure who, when and/or where? In my DNA research, I have also found indian ancestry in my mother's side of the tree; perhaps, even more recent and more of it. This is so wonderful for me. I just came on to WikiTree today to see if there was more news for me, and happened upon this blog. Christmas chores are looming, so I will have to end it for now; but, hope to resume soon. Txs, Jeannette

In regard to comment 2, yes.

So far the line is Valentine (1710-1760)Martin of Martin Martin and Sarah Hix of Glasgow, Scotland.  This is not a registered lineage of the French Hugenot Society yet.

In rgard to commet 3 the following

Only family rumors.  Martin seems to be accepted by most researchers as Father, but beyond him, no logical or factual line.  Several conjectures as to French Hugenot lineage and descent.  I am going to contact knowledgeable researchers in each registered line and also each family line.  Original information came to me through a fifth cousin's research.

In regard to comment 4, thank you for information of Jean Martin Lineage.  Since Valentine's brother married a descendant of Manakintown and they lived in this vicinity, this is a very good logical lead.

1710 is rather late for a Huguenot emigrant. What is the evidence that he was Huguenot?

John Martin was a French Hugenot, he is on the register. Here's the website address.

http://huguenot-manakin.org/manakin/martin.php

It tell about John's family.

Maybe this will help in your search for information. Also in the documents written by R.A. Brock called "Documents, chiefly unpublished, relating to the Huguenot emigration to Virginia and to the settlement at Manakin-Town."

John Martin's family is documented for several generation in this book. The book can be view  online and searched. It's in the Library of Congress , go to view website and view it. It free and can be downloaded. I've read it several time while doing my own family research.
