Who is the real father of Judith Hamilton's father, James?

Judith Hamilton, born in 1662 at Hamilton Manor, Co Tyrone, Ireland, married Rev Alexander Colhoun in 1684.  Her father apparently was Rev James H Hamilton; so many trees have James' parents as Sir Frederick Hamilton and Sidney Vaughan.  But reputable websites and family histories state that the James who was the son of Sir Frederick was born "before 1632" and died Dec 1652, married Catherine Hamilton, and had 2 kids.  That seems to eliminate Sir Frederick as James' father.  Other sources indicate that Rev Andrew Hamilton was the father.  This Andrew also had a son Andrew who wrote a book about the "Men of Iniskellin".   Rev Andrew apparently was related to the Earls of Abercorn; another son John managed the estate at Baronscourt at one point.  Are there records anywhere that verify this?  Thanks in advance, Kent Smith

Welcome to the wonderful World of James Hamilton's.

What eliminates Frederick from being James' Father? Frederick (as listed on Wikitree at http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hamilton-971 ) was born in 1590 and died 1647. James was born 1625 and died 1685, Judith was born in 1662 and died in 1705.

There are several Hamilton lines, and they intertwine quite a bit :) There apparently are also two Judish Hamilton's with similar information but different parents.

This was posted on my wall rather than here, I am copying it here to extend the conversation: Thanks for your response, but the "Historical & Genealogical Memoirs of the House of Hamilton", p. 244 states that Sir Frederick Hamilton & Sidney Vaughan had 4 children: James, Frederick, Gustavus, & Christiana. This James married his 1st cousin, Catherine Hamilton, daughter of Claud, the 1st Lord Strabane in 1647; they had 2 daughters, Hannah & Sidney. James was born before 1632 and died 27 Dec 1652. The websites genealogy.euweb.cz, cracroftspeerage.co.uk, and thepeerage.com confirm the above records. The Manor Hamilton associated with Sir Frederick's son James is located in County Leitrim; the Hamilton Manor associated with the 1662 Judith Hamilton is located in County Tyrone. I think that mistakes have been perpetuated on Ancestry.com; the birth and death dates mean nothing.
