It appears he was a coal miner at Outtrim. There is a 1902 article on a court case against him (and others) for his involvement in a strike.
In an inquest into a suicide in 1907 he was a witness called to identify the person (article on Trove) and mentioned as formerly a resident of Outtrim, but now a resident of Merewether, NSW.

John Edward Shaw died in 1952, Parents Robert Charles Shaw and Harriet. He was living at 64 Bazentin St, Belfield at the time of his death, and was buried in Rookwood.
