I have a family headstone that is engrave a word I can read.  

C____ Infantry World War II Veteran

 

In reference to George Thomas Stovall.  

Birth:  Apr. 21, 1910
Death:  Jan. 26, 1947

Sally is the above exactly how it's engraved on the tombstone? Is it an actual Military marker or on his actual tombstone?
CPL (E-4) is rank for corporal.

Hi Sally,  the letter your reffering to will be to indicate his rank, which in this case is Corporal.
