You will have to download a GEDCOm from Ancestry. I really suggest you get one of the free desktop programs to clean up the data from Ancestry before uploading to WikiTree.

I imagine Geni or MyHeritage are the same.

Exception:

If you have a lot of people in your GEDCOM over 200 years old, chances are they have profiles on wikitree already. So you may want to exclude them from your GEDCOM.
Forgot about that Jillaine. Good catch.
Just out of interest, Jillaine, are you really talking about the US?

Only two of my over 200 years old were on WT already. Out of a couple of thousand.
Martin,

You're absolutely right. I am speaking about the U.S.  Apologies for my 'centrism.
Don't worry, Jillaine, it's probably inevitable. I tend to be UK-centric as well.
And I'm UK and Oz centric; except when I venture into my spouse's tree which is well and truly established in the Confederate States.
Martin, you're too kind. I should know better.

Jillaine smiley.

What are these "free desktop programs" to clean up Ancestry?
their is ways to do that all I can say is I hoep the best, and good luck.

Hi Constance,  So glad you have joined our collaborative, one-world family WikiTree!

Please read through our information pages about GedCom imports.  Also, please keep in mind that there is only one leaf/profile on the WikiTree for each person in the world.  If two or more profiles are created for the same person, they must be merged into the first (lowest ID number) for the set of duplicates.  This creates a good deal of extra work, so please minimize duplications as much as possible. (I think this is what Jillaine was mentioning about the 200 year old profiles.)

You can pretty well depend that surnames like Boone (2158 in the WikiTree database), Morgan (8355), Nichols (4693), and Coffey (1971) are going to be well represented here already.  You should start by searching for the names of your earliest ancestors to see if they already have a leaf/profile on the WikiTree.
