Matches and Merges

I have become really interested in matches and merges-great if you only have a few minutes to spare. Notice that there are some dating all the way back to 11/2012. Is there any way we could make a concerted effort to get merges and matches cleared up?

Hey Holly!

great for getting involved!  I recommend joining the Arborists team and jumping in!

I know that we are working through the "proposed by Matchbot," to look at the error rate, so please do not approve those, but those that are proposed by other people can be approved.

Make sure to 1) Clean up the profiles of the people you are merging, and 2) go through the merging and matching tools when done, to make sure all the merges are proposed/finished along those lines.

I do recommend looking at the proposed merges of those surnames in your tree before jumping into the big pool :) You can find your surname list under "My Wikitree." You may find some new relatives :)
Thank you all for such thoughtful and instructive responses. I will definitely review all the info on merging and check out the arborists project.

It's great that you're interested in cleaning up the merge backlog! You should consider joining the Arborists. That project is focused on eliminating duplicates on WikiTree, and currently a lot of us are working on the pending merge backlog.

If you haven't already, anyone who's doing a lot of merging should make sure they're familiar with the merging help pages, including Merging and Matching and Merging FAQ. Merging is a huge help to WikiTree, as long as it's done right! :)
