In creating profiles for all the Australia Prime Ministers and their wives I came upon Bettina Gorton nee Brown, the wife of John Gorton. All the records I can find list her as born in Bangor, Maine, USA. I also found a newspaper article (The Miami News, May 28, 1968) that says she was born in Great Barrington, Mass, USA but brought up in Maine. Which is correct? Her birth date is given as about 1915.
Wikipedia has her parents as Arthur A Brown (d abt 1917), the President of an American Bank in Cuba, and her mother was Grace (home state Maine). She also had a brother, Arthur.
Can anyone help me with details of Bettin's birth and parents?
