Albert and Fanny Maslen

Question

Albert born 1878 and Fanny 1879.

Living with father (?) David Maslen but often registered as Maslin, in 1881 with half sisters Emily and Sarah and n 1891 with new step mother and her daughter Maud and new issue David Maslen junior.

Unable to trace any birth records for Albert And Fanny. Emily was born in i869 (Portsea Island) two years before David (Maslin) married Sarah Ann Menty (but actiually Minty). Sarah was born in 1871 and registered as Maslin.

Looks  as if Sarah  Ann married again in 1873 using her original maiden name and that Albert and Fanny are from a new marriage before he marries Emma Butts in 1883.

Hello            I am a researcher doing work for Wiki Tree.First Albert Maslin living

with father david in Russell Town, Wiltshire England.First thing do you know for

sure that your Albert father is David.Because there are 5 Albert Maslen living in

the area,Albert Charles,Albert John,Albert Richard,Albert Edgar,So we need his

middle initial or middle name.Albert Maslin shows no middle name.It is usually

the case that Maslen and Maslin not the same person.But sometimes it is just

transcription error.Are being able to read there writing.Alot of people in this era

were not well educated,many could not read or write.Give your answer on Wiki

Hi Morgan,

Albert and Fanny both appear living with David on the 1881 and 1891 Census records both Bristol.. In 1881 David is the only adult and as well as A/F he has Emily and Sarah living with him.  Emily was born in 1869 two years before his marriage to Sarah Ann Menty (actually Minty and David recorded as Maslin) - Sarah was born in 1871. And in 1891 he he is living with he wife Emma who he marries in 1883.and they have Maud Butts (1877) living with Albert (1878) and Fanny (1879)  plus their son David (1885) whose ancestors I am helping. In 1871 he is living with wife Sarah and Emily at Portsea Island.

On the 1891 census David quotes his age as 45 so equates to 1846 as his birth year but I was offered 1844 Wilsford and 1848 Calne. I initially chose the 1848 Calne because of an erroneous connection with that David's brother Charles who was living in Bristol before belatedly opting for the Wilsford birth because if the Emily (1869) connection.

Having tried all the surnames in the research against both Albert AND Fanny i.e. Maslen, Maslin and Butts it does look possible that he might not be the father and they have come into his care because of some family tragedy although as he was living on his own in 1881 this looks a bit unlikely. I have looked for other surname matches for Albert and Fanny in both Portsea Island (where he was in 1881) and Bristol (where he was in 1891) but the one match I found i.e. Taylor seemed to be a co-incidental matching.

I will be seeing my friend tomorrow and presenting Albert and Fanny as a mystery but hopefully as I matched David Goldfinch Maslen to David Maslen, Wilsford and Emma Goldfinch Blean she will be pleased.

Found Albert John Maslin on the 1911 census living at Cheltenham who gives is age as 33 (fits) and it states he was born in Swindon and then the library omputers crashed before I could take it further ! Looked at the birth record at home on Genes reunited and it's 1846 Highworth so doubting it's the same person but will check further. No Fanny Maslin birth 1979 Highworth.

Although Swindon is a significant urban area today it owes its initial growth to the railways. Over the last 150 is has swallowed up villages as it has expanded & they are now outlying suburbs. Prior to Swindon's growth Highworth was the significant town in that part of Wiltshire.
