Should we set priorities among the various tasks ?

I recently advocated that the best way to keep people on the site would be to let them do what they like (as long as it remains consistent with the site goals).

One might argue that it would also help to have priorities set among the various tasks performed on the site. Although tasks could contribute to various goals - e.g. improving the quality of the site, attracting new users - I suggest to adopt a single list.

The following tasks could be mentioned, among others:

  • Merging duplicates
  • Cleaning profiles
  • Improving profiles
  • Adding categories
  • Creating pages concerning large groups of people (e.g. cities, wars)
  • Choosing profile of the week
  • Creating pages about recipes, animals, etc.

in fact Eowyn already set up a google group involving ancestral recipes, but I have to agree in that regards it may allow us to keep people more active. For one not everyone is capable of all aspects. I for one have a lot of experience in research, however, im not very good at prose writing the biography.

I am rather new to WikiTree and am wondering the same thing...

I have over 100k people to enter.. does that take precedence over rejecting obviously incorrect possible merges since that list appears ever ending?

I have decided not to even attempt to upload any of my gedcoms because none are set up to work with the WikiTree layout or style guide and I see that way lies total madness for me.  So I started by adding in my direct line back to 1600.  Will tackle prior 1600 when I can figure out what I need to do for the 1500s and before according to this site.  I figured most people do not have lines that far back and I have only a few who fit that time so I am letting them lie for now...

I try to check unsourced people and unconnected people at least once a week.

I also try to answer at least one unanswered question a week trying to be a good community member.

This format does take a while to understand and there are a lot of on-going maintenance steps.  But I like the idea of collaborative workinng
