Hello,

Not exactly answering your question but adding information you may or may not have the following information

Estelle Johnson married John Cox Seymour 19 Sept 1876 in Manhatten, New York, New York. His parents were Walter M. Seymour and Eliza M. Otto. "New York, Marriages, 1686-1980," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/MY9Y-V6P : accessed 16 Jun 2014), John Cox Seymour and Estella Johnson, 19 Sep 1876; citing reference ; FHL microfilm 1562178.

Helen Wederstrandt Johnson married Charles F. Bound 26 April 1871 in Manhatten, New York, New York. His parents were John F. Bound and Hannah E. Johnson. "New York, Marriages, 1686-1980," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/MY9Y-V6P : accessed 16 Jun 2014), John Cox Seymour and Estella Johnson, 19 Sep 1876; citing reference ; FHL microfilm 1562178.

Can anyone find a source for Edwin A. Johnson's manner of death (falling from a balcony in Paris)? The obituary just says that he died suddenly.

Whoops, just found it in the New York Times archives.

A gentleman from New-York, Mr. EDWIN A. JOHNSON, met with his death this week, in Paris, by accident. He had been dining with another American gentleman, in the Avenue d' Antin, and after dinner was sitting in the window smoking a cigarette, when the window-guard gave way and he fell three stories to the paved court below, and was so injured that he died two days afterward. He was 37 years of age, and leaves a wife and two or three small children. MALAKOFF

Thank you very much - I hadn't managed to find that story. Can you please let me know what date this was in the NY Times?

The only possible lead here appears to be the NY State Census 1855 which gives Ellen Woodruff estimated birth 1822 as the daughter of Cyrus Woodruff and Larina Woodruff, with sibblings Harriet, Cynthia, Elisa, Mary and Nathan. "New York, State Census, 1855," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/9MV7-M9BR : accessed 16 Jun 2014), Cyrus Woodruff, Spencer, Tioga, New York, United States; citing Secretary of State; FHL microfilm 816364.  Ellen is listed as 33 years old and the Family is living in Spencer, Tioga, NY, USA. Not sure if it is any use at all. Cannot find any other listings for Ellen Woodruff's born in the 1820's
