I am searching for more details as to the identity of Barbara Swan Sloan. One Anita Swann contacted me via email a while ago and posed a question which I didn't know the answer to. My hard drive crashed and lost my data but luckily I had pasted her question in Barbara's profile beforehand but I now no longer have Anita's email address. Does anyone have any knowledge about this family???

The query is as follows:

I am interested in your Barbara Swan. I believe that a [[Space:Autobiography_of_the_Sloan_Family_by_Rebecca_Sloan_Shands|researcher]] upon whom you relied has misattributed her as a child of Timothy Swan. John Swan of Newberry Co., Old 96th District, SC signed a will 7 March 1796, which was proven 28 March 1807. In his will he names wife Rebeca, son Timothy, and daughters Mary, Ann and Barbra. He specifies that his three daughters are to be with their mother until they reach eighteen years of age. I believe he must have died before 1800 as in the census of 1800 Rebekah Swan is a resident of Newberry. In the household are a male 16-25, 2 females under 10, a female 10-15 and a female 26-44. I believe them to be Rebecca Boyd Swan, her son Timothy, and her 3 daughters. Timothy Swan of Laurens Co. SC left a will signed 21 July 1816 which was proved 7 Oct 1816. In it he names wife Sarah, his mother (not by name), son Alexander and daughters Rebeckah and Isabella. David Sloan witnesses the will along with John Simmons and James Hutchinson. I believe David Sloan and John Simmons are his brothers-in-law, married to his sisters Barbara and Ann. Rebecca Swan does not appear in the 1810 census, either in Newberry or Laurens, but Timothy Swan does. In his household in Laurens are 1 male 16-26, three females 16-25, and a female over 45. I believe the older female to be his mother. The other females might have included his wife and unmarried sisters, but as I have no marriage date or wife's name for him, that is very speculative. In the 1820 census Rebecca Swan appears in Laurens, with one female 26-44 and one over 45. Herself and daughter Mary? Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this. I am a descendant of James Swann of Fairfield Co. SC, who was born in Ireland circa 1761. He had among his children sons Timothy and John. DNA has proven that he was closely related to Samuel and Robert Swan of York Co SC. I am trying to find a male descendant of John Swan who died in Newberry before 1800 to see if they are connected as well to these other South Carolina Swans. Regards, Anita

Sean- I am  trying, politely, to say that Barbara Swan who married David Sloan was the _sister_ of Timothy Swan. Timothy was the son of John Swan and Rebecca Boyd.  Barbara was the daughter of John Swan and Rebecca Boyd. David Sloan witnessed brother-in-law Timothy Swan's will. If you check the census records carefully, you will find that Timothy Swan was not old enough to have had a daughter in 1791, but John Swan was.
