Why aren't uploaded pictures showing in profile?

I just uploaded two picture to the profile of Rev John Lothrop, but they don't show up on the profile page.  I see the activity of me adding the pictures in the changes log, but the pictures aren't visible.  What did I do wrong?  Does someone have to approve the pictures first?

Hi Olin,

Let's see ...  Here are the two images:

I see how they were uploaded in the changes log http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:NetworkFeed&who=Lothrop-3

You're right that there's no indication of them being removed in the profile's changes log. However, that's not surprising. We actually don't include all image activity on all the profiles they're associated with. We just attach that one first upload action.

The change logs on the image pages themselves do show more activity after the initial upload. Although the change history is not detailed enough to show when it happened, my guess is that you accidentally clicked the "remove from image" for Lathrop-3 on one of those changes. Does that seem possible?

You should be able to add Lothrop-3 back to the images. I just did.

They now appear as they should: http://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Lothrop-Photos-3

If this keeps happening, post again and we'll see if there's some bug.

Thanks.  I went back and looked, and I think I see what happened.  I misunderstood what the "In this image" meant.  I thought it meant the list of people that appeared in the picture.  It defaulted to Rev John, but I deleted that since he isn't actually in the picture.

Apparently it instead means the profiles the picture is to be associated with.  I'll try to remember this for the future, but changing "In this image" to something like "Associated with this image" would be a good idea.

Hi Olin,

I did not see your name listed as a profile manager or on the trusted list (privacy tab). You need to be at least on the trusted list of an open profile in order to upload a photo.

I misundertood and thought that for people over 200 years old, most anyone can do basic things like upload photos.

So what happened to the photos?  Are they still there and one of the profile managers can approve them?  I thought adding a photo to be rather harmless since it's not actually changing anything.  I left a comment for something I thought should be changed.

By the way, one photo was of Rev John's personal bible that is now on display in the Sturgis Library, and the other of the explanatory plaque over the display.
I do not know the reason why photos cannot be uploaded on an open profile, only that you need to at least be on the trusted list to do so.  All you have to do is click in the trusted list request link and your photos should then appear on the profile.  If not, you can upload them again.  The profile is also project protected..  Here is the information regarding that type of profile:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project_protection

Any Wiki Genealogist should be able to upload an image for an Open profile.

I think what happened here is something different. I will post a separate answer.

I responded to this question Chris because the situation happened to me on a couple of profiles I wished to add photos to. I had to request trusted list access and the privacy setting was open.
Hi Lauren. Up until the redesign the "upload" links were missing. That is, you could upload, but you weren't invited to upload and it wasn't easy. Now the upload links should be there. Do you see them now?
This was before the redesign.  Thanks!  :-)
