Due to conflicts over the years borders have changed. One thing you can

do ,print map af austria see where lived and see if near border wth Switzerland.

I had a person in Austria that at the time was part of Ukraine.

Gy, Loir-et-Cher, is nowhere near Switzerland. Border changes could not explain the difference in information. There is a Gy in Haute-Saône, which is part of the region Franche-Comté which borders on Switzerland. It is possible that there were Swiss exclaves in the region in the 17th century but I am not sure without further research if that would apply to Gy.
