John halkett was with the 78th Foot Regiment, he came to tasmania in 1850 aboard the "blenheim" and at some stage became a policeman,  He married  Mary ann Broughton and had a son Charles Broughton Halkett [ broughton is now used as a middle name] the last name then changes to Hackett. Ihave looked in the Tasmanian archives online but are unable to find much info on his past like his parents or marriage etc

His name wasn't by any chance John William or William John Halkett, was it? I found a few electoral roles on ancestry.com that list a William John Hackett living in New Town, Denson, Tasmania. Also, here's a profile for a possible match on ancestry.com.

If you have any birth dates, marriage dates, or death dates, I could try to search for a birth, marriage, or death record, which often list parents.

As far as i know it wasnt William and i have found marriage banns in the LANCANSHIRE parish clerk project but am unable to confirm this at the moment. One record i found could place his birth in 1809 but a death record from the New Norfolk hospital for the insane puts it about 1822 , ij you could help it would be greatly appreciated , also there is convicts with the exact same names but they are not the ones i am searching for .
