Since we are a global community and we have folks from Spain, Italy, Russia, France, Holland, Germany, Sweden  and Viet Nam, is there a special area where they can ask questions or set up their own profiles?  Most of  the ones here using G2G are English speaking.  I just wanted to let them know thay are welcomed to ask questions here and to share their family tree.  It is why we are here, right?

Regards,

Mary

Not so much an answer as a follow-up question: Is it possible to add country of origin to the sign up info and have greeters say something to the extent of "we have a project on your country of origin going" or "we have some members from your country of origin, would you like contact information?"

May be that could be the seed for some new projects dealing with non-western genealogy and raise awareness of existing projects.

I think that is a good idea, Helmut.  I will pass your suggestion to our Leader, Irene and see what can be done about it.  This was more to the subject I was thinking about.

To my knowledge, the only thing on Wikitree that is (so far) being localized into different languages is categories.

The content of profiles can be written in whatever language the author is comfortable with (possibly with some technical limits on character sets and/or right-to-left languages) but I believe the GUI is currently English only.

I have seen G2G questions in non-English languages. Given the composition of Wikitree's user base (predominantly English speaking) the response these questions gets varies; I know I have on limited occasions used Google Translate to understand a question and then responded in English (so someone who is multilingual can offer a better translation if needed) with a Google Translation below (which can usually get across the 'jist' of the information.)
