Sandwell records office have found that my mom's mother  was married to Bertie John Danks on December 22nd 1907 and she signed the register as Elizabeth Hawkins, however, in January 1908 her mother married again to a Brown and Elizabeth & Bertie went back to the vicar and had hers & her father's  name Hawkins crossed out and a reference :Elizabeth Hawkins something Brown then a date and they signed (she signed Elizabeth Brown) cannot read all as its faint. written on the left of certificate. Why would she sign Hawkin on weding day & change about three weeks later to Brown?

Hello Roger,

If there is an amendement on the wedding certificate there should be a code with that amendment, in Scotland it shows as an R.C.E. code (Register of Corrected Entries Code) and if you search that code number you get the reasons for the amendment. However if the wedding certificate wasn't amended then it would depend if the Parish Vicar kept good records as to the reason why he allowed the record to be amened.

Also the following tutorial may help you understand how changes could be made.
