Noticed some duplicates in the Swearingen/van Swearingen family. Profile managers to the rescue?

Hi. While searching for another person, I noticed there seem to be duplicates between the Swearingen and van Swearingen families. I am only assuming they are the same people based on birth/death dates, spouses, parents, and children, as I am not personally related to this family. Would anyone who is a part of this family/profile managers like to take up this cause? If you need/want help, let me know. Thanks.

Yikes!  Messy.  I just proposed one merge, but I think we need to bring some better expertise to bear on the surname conflicts.  I edited your post to add the New Netherlands project as a tag.  Those folks have some serious knowledge about Dutch naming conventions, and the tag should get their attention.  Good luck to all attempting to untangle this!

I have been working this slowly as the many alternate spellings when they settled in the new world.  I will continue to work if that is OK with everyone.

Turns out you were trying to merge a niece and an aunt, both name Lurannah.   This family had names that they repeated every generation, hard to keep track.   I have fixed the profiles in question and rejected the merge.   Yikes....and found the whole new duplicate branch loaded....getting to the merges....

I have finished making updates and have proposed numerous merges to get the family into a single branch with one name.   Hopefully, this solves the issues above.  This is an update for September, I just finished another round of merge requests, now we are really close to having all the duplicates done.

Yes, I think that is my mess. I didn't notice it until after the upload.
It seems every time I add someone to my tree, I get duplicates. What am I doing wrong?

Hi All, Just seeing this now and answered a new searcher on the van Sweringen......... here -> http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/188186/burial-site-of-gerret-garrett-van-swearingen-sweringen?show=188193#c188193

Van Sweringen was changed to Van Swearingen.  The "a" was added when the Dutch were educated in English-speaking schools.  The "Van" was dropped by most after the American Revolution because they considered it too European.  Yes, it's confusing, especially as so many first names are repeated, but they are the same people.  Perhaps combining the names with aka...aka... would lessen the confusion.
