It's like a Scarlet Letter of shame in some cases!

Agreed. And very aggressive of mods to label someone this way!

Hi Vincent,

One of the Leaders who are part of the Ranger Project would be the one to remove a referral badge.

Thanks
These two recent threads have aroused my curiosity since I had never heard of this badge until today.  It is not described or explained anywhere in the page that lists all the badges, so could someone kindly explain what types of activity by a member would "earn" this badge?  Are there objective criteria, or is it by the call of any leader or ranger?
What? Is this some badge you get if you are "referred" for what? Retraining?  I don't understand either.
Click on the badge and it will take you to a page that describes its use.
I did that, but it doesn't really say anything, and it doesn't answer the questions.  Apparently we've had this "award" for a long time, but it's news to me, and it just seems inconsistent for this site.
Thanks for the link Jillaine.  I don't recall ever seeing that old thread (probably was occupied with moving and settling into a new house at the time), but actually one of the mentors did send me a private e-mail on this subject yesterday.  That note included a very good explanation of the badge and the process, and I was satisfied with the answer.  I do think it might be beneficial to include a better explanation with the badge itself, which might preclude conversations like this, but apparently the powers that be don't share that thinking.  Some of the relevant points are the same ones Julie made in the old thread, so there wouldn't really be any shocking new revelations.
I concur that help page text could be clearer about the referral badges.

I'm not sure that "powers that be" don't share that thinking. It could just as easily be a bandwidth issue.

At the bottom of the badges on your profile you will see edit display order. Click on that and another page will come up. On that page find the badge and click the box that says hide from profile.
