I am a decendant of Charles P. Lewis who came to Illinois prior to 1840. He was born in Tennesse in 1824. He was probably living with his cousin Samuel H. Lewis in 1840 in the Gallatin County Illinois Federal Census. Charles served in the Mexican War and upon discharge married Miss Charlotte Brown in 1847 in Gallatin County, Illinois. Charles and Charlotte named their oldest son Robert. There oldest daughter was named Rebecca. Perhaps the parents of Charles were Robert and Rebecca Lewis. Their second son was named Jonathan for Charlotte's father and their second daughter was named Sarah for her mother.
