Are there any english speaking volunteer genealogists living in or around Hamburg, Germany ?

I have been trying for many years to research my father’s family in Germany but with no success due mainly to the high cost of professional genealogists, my inability to speak German and the understandable reluctance of the staff at the archives in Hamburg to give out any information in regard to families. All I have is my grandfather’s names, date of birth and date of death, which I obtained from a photograph of the family grave that I found amongst some old photographs that I had.

My father and his family came to South Africa from Hamburg Germany in the early 1900's (approx between 1920 and 1930) and after getting a divorce, my grandfather (Georg Curt Adolph Dollmann) returned to Germany where he died on the 20 March 1953 and was buried in the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg in the family grave site, which was demolished in 1976 due to lack of funds for the upkeep thereof.

I would appreciate any assistance I can get in regard obtaining information in regard to my grandfather and any related family .

same problem. I'm looking my children's ancestors, my mothers languaje is spanish, it's difficult to me the english and i dont know german!!  i need information about Emilio Thiessen who borned in Hamburg Germany

If you can show that you are a descendant of the person you are seeking information about you can request the relevant documents from the Standesamt of the part of Hamburg the event you want documented happened in. For Ohlsdorf that is

Bezirksamt Hamburg-Nord - Standesamt Hamburg-Nord

Robert-Koch-Straße 17
20249 Hamburg

email: Standesamt@hamburg-nord.hamburg.de

If I remember correctly the current fee for these documents is €12.00

Many thanks for the info Helmut....Very much appreciated.

Also my apologies for only replying now - 4 years later. I did not see your reply until now.
