Welcome to Wikitree. We're encouraging everyone to join us. Although at the moment I suspect we're mostly from the US. If you like what we're doing, you'll pass the word along to your British friends and we'll all be related.
Welcome to WikiTree and no this communtiy is not just the US, we have members from all over the world!  I don't live in the US (even though I am a southern belle).

I'm Canadian with deep roots here. Before that (in most cases before 1850) the roots are in the UK, with a few roots and strays in the US. I hope there are lots of us. We need each other.

Welcome Nicholas,

As you explore Wikitree, you may find areas of US Centric thinking but Wikitree is trying to be more international and we have enough non US folks who help us remember that.

Check out the Categories and you will see those efforts in action.

Cheers!

*waves* to Nicholas from a land down under smiley Welcome!

Being a kiwi I refer to our family tree as Aotearoa (the Maori name for NZ) Soup! My great (x 1 & 2) grandparents immigrated here from Ireland, Scotand, London, Cornwall, Sussex (Isle of Wight roots), Sweden, & Moravia (Czech Rep.), and my grandfather was Canadian, and another gt grandfather may well have been half Jamaican! So I'm a wikitreer from all over the world ;)

Hi Nicholas,

I'm in Scotland and doing research in the U.K & Ireland and a few other countries as well. The Wallace family moved around a lot :)

All the best

Billy
I'm from the UK too, hello!
Hello to everyone,

I  am new to WikiTree and I'm not sure if this is how I'm suppose to introduce myself. My name is Kathy Burton-Milam and I live in Warsaw, Missouri, USA.  I have been researching my family since I was 11 years old and have seen a lot of changes and I sure am glad we now have the internet and WikiTree!

Kathy Burton-Milam
Hi Kathy, Welcome to Wikitree. As a general rule people who introduce themselves start a new "question" in the Tree House, but this is fine, except that only the folks who've made comments on this question are likely to notice this message, instead of the whole group of us wikitreers.

I too have been researching a long time. I love going to the library to research, except that the state archives (the ones I go to) are in big cities and even forty years ago the parking was awful. So, yes, sure is nice to have the internet.
Thank you for helping me.  I wasn't sure what to do or where to post.

Welcome Kathy - I'm delighted to meet you!

What to do and where to post is whatever you want to ask, answer, or just share with everyone else.  We have one very informal topic here every weekend, where we let it all hang out - anything goes in that question - why don't you just chime in on the current one at:

http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/168542/weekend-chat-all-members-are-invited-31-july-1-aug-2015

Nicholas, I'm happy to meet you, too and hope you also join in the weekend chat.  I know of several members in England, as well as other parts of the world and we have several projects where we focus on specific countries.  Thee is so much here that you'll probably be overwhelmed for a while as you discover it all ... even now, I feel like a kid in a candy store sometimes!

Hello! Canadian here too :-). Roots go back to the UK. Family immigrated to Ontario in 1911 (I guess that makes me 2nd generation Canadian).

Nice to have another Canadian here (I'm sure there are lots!).

Cheers!

Laurie
Hi Nicholas,

I'm from Oz, living in the US. All mum's line is from East Anglia while dad's is a mix of Scotland, London, Ireland and probably France. My husband, however, apart from a little Irish, has very solid ancestors in the American South and all fought as Confederates.

Rosemary
I am another one of the WikiTree members in the UK.

I am in North Wales and in February I went to Rootstech and met up with other members.

Almost all my research is in England and I recently joined the Guild of One Name Studies.

If you have anyone with the surname ROSLING in your tree I may be in touch if you have not contacted me first.

Hi Nicholas!
I'm in the UK too, you will find a good amount of british Wikitree members, as well as a lot of American members with british roots.

I'm originally from Wales but currently living in Oxfordshire, with Irish roots on my paternal side and mostly southwest english on my paternal side.

I'm also building researching my husbands family for him and his family are Irish and Northwestern England.

A big welcome to Wikitree, let me know if I can help you in any way :)

Hi Nicholas and welcome,

The Wikitree community has members from many different parts of the world, however the current membership is largely based in the United States. With that said, most researchers overtime gain much experience dealing with records pertaining to the places their ancestors originated which for a large number of North Americans is UK and contnental Europe.

Regards,

Rob

Margaret,  Welcome to wikitree!  My family started out all over in England.  So, if I can suggest some different sites that would be good to start out on it would be a pleasure to do so.  Best of luck in your search.

There are many thousands of us here on Wikitree researching families in the U.K. and other countries.  In fact, the largest and oldest project on here is the European Aristocrats project, which has five sub-projects due to its size.  One of the leaders is in Europe, one is in Australia, a couple are in Canada...

I'm an American but live in Canada.  My ancestors immigrated to Canada and the U.S. from all over the U.K. (Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales) as well as Germany, Switzerland, Amsterdam, etc.

While the bulk of Wikitree members may be American, they have ancestors that immigrated from all over the world and, as such, do research 'across the pond'.  You will find a wealth of information on the site, and the G2G forum is a great place to post genealogy questions to seek help in tracing your ancestors.  I've found this to be a very generous community and think you'll love it!

And if you have any interest in getting involved in a project, we'd love to have you join us in the EuroAristo group.  We're always looking for new members to help grow and improve our tree.  You can read about it and find links to the sub-projects here:  http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:European_Aristocrats

Nicholas, Hello!  I'm in the US.  But, my family started out in the UK, so have found many places to look in the UK,  mostly they came from England.  If you need the names of some places to search I can give you quite a few.  Glad, to have you search with us on wikitree.  If, you are searching for anyone be sure to add the county, state, and country where they were born, lived and died if you know it.  Thanks, for asking.  If I can help you get started I would find it enjoyable.

Hi, Nicholas,

Not a Brit but couldn't resist letting you know that my Byzantine chant teacher is Nicholas Jones.  You, too, can learn Byzantine chant in English for free by going to his website and watching his Youtube videos:

www.byzantinechant.org

Hope you are related to him because he is an exceedingly wonderful young person

Howdy Nicholas! Welcome aboard!

Yes, we are fortunate to have Wikitreers from the UK and pretty much every other place where English is spoken.

I am glad to see more Europeans joining us both because I admire quite a bit about the EU and because I'd love to run into folks from own tree who are still on the continent.

Enjoy! There's a good group in this little cyber society.
