Best practice advice on including links to family members in the bio

I have a question about the preferred method of linking family members within the text of the biography.

My GGrandfather moved between farms a lot and the bith place of his kids helps me track that. This means his bio could have his children mentioned a few times each. Is the best practice:

a) use the link text every time eg [[Bourne-824|John Bourne]]

b) use the link the first time each person is used and "plain text" from then on.

to me a) looks a bit cluttered, but handy if it's a long piece and you don't have to scroll around looking for the link.

kind regards,

Alison

If no merges result, internal links are good. But more than one link always leaves the possibility of added work.

The easiest method is just letting people click the official profile link in the vitals... so you don't have to redo anything.

I think (b) is sufficient.
It only looks cluttered on the Edit Page. In the bio of the profile, the name will appear as plain text (but coloured green). If the same name needs to be used frequently in the bio, simply copy and paste the Wiki ID.

You might also shorten the name to just John by entering the Wiki ID as [[Bourne-8241|John]]

Thanks Bree - so far I've not had any profiles to merge or been merged by anyone else, so wasn't aware of that - thank you.smiley

Thanks Nan, that's my preferred- but thought I'd better ask the group.
Thank you Peter, I try to check back to the public view every so often when I'm working on a profile - just to see the finished product. I like the idea of shortening the link too - the other side of my family seesm to call evey other boy Robert, so that can get confusing and the links will help
