Philip Delano, b. Duxbury, Massachusetts, ca. 1637, married Elizabeth and had 5 children. Was she 1) Elizabeth CLARK, daughter of William Clark and Martha Nash? 2) Elizabeth SAMPSON, daughter of Abraham Sampson and Esther Nash? Or 3) Elizbeth SAMPSON, daughter of Samuel Sampson and Unknown Nash? Or perhaps another?

A work from 1899, "The genealogy, history, and alliances of the American house of Delano, 1621 to 1899" by Joel Andrew Delano, page 106, says she was Elizabeth CLARK.

Anderson in "The Great Migration Begins", page 519, say Elizabeth SAMPSON, daughter of Samuel Sampson and --- Nash.  In NEHGR 51:76, I found: "In Winsor's History of Duxbury, p. 801, is the statement that Abraham Sampson — the first Abraham — married a daughter of Lieut. Samuel Nash. ... I sought verification for the statement in the will of Samuel Nash, and what was my surprise to find mention of his two "grandsons (Samuel Sampson's two sons) Samuel and Ichabod," his two grand-daughters Elizabeth "Dillano" and Mary Howland, and his daughter Martha Clarke. His daughter Martha to be executrix and his two friends Thomas "Dillino" and John Soule to be "overseers." (Old Colony Court Orders, Vol. 4, part 2, p. 112.)" submitted by Susan Austin Smith.  This seems to mean that Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Sampson.

One profile has Elizabeth SAMPSON, daughter of Abraham Sampson and Esther Nash, with no citation.

Any help would be appreciated.  This problem is holding up the proposal of many merges down the line.  Thanks.

Hi Vic,

Extending John's answer (below) and your comments (above), have added a little narrative and references to Delano's profile.

I think the basic PGM principle is: When in doubt, follow Anderson.  And Anderson is supported by the will that you quoted, 'nuff said.  That old Delano genealogy was NOT very well done.
