I checked the records in Fold3. The service records are filed under name of William R. Bennett.
Then I checked Pension Record, which gets really confusing.
Pension Record for Wilson R. Bennett (WC147010) of Company I, 7 Tenn Cavalry.
Applied by Martha A. (Hammett) Bennett, Pension commencing Oct 21, 1864.
Children
George Madison B. Feby 4th 1860
Rebecca A. B. May 13 1862
Another page showing proof of marriage listed name as William R. Bennett and Martha A. Hammett with date of marriage as April 19, 1857. But most of the pension records list his name as Wilson .
I can email you any of these documents, if it will help.
The 7th Tennessee Cavalry (US) surrendered twice to General N. B. Forrest: first time was at Trenton, TN on Dec 20, 1862. Then again on March 24, 1864, they surrended to the 7th Tennessee Cavalry(CS) plus a few supporting units at Union City, TN. This was part of General Forrest's West Tennessee campaign during March & April 1864. They were taken to Andersonville Prison, GA. The 7th Tenn Cavalry(US) had the 4th highest death rate for any regiment at Andersonville.
