By way of explanation -- I decided to take a break (and gain a little experience on Wiki at the same time). I select an Orphaned Surname Group I know “something about.” Find missing dates and add DateGuess and any other sources/info I can come up with. Although I have to admit, I sometimes get side-tracked and start wandering down the Yellow Brick Road (Duplicates) – Hopefully, I will find Oz one of these days.
I have a quirky situation with two profiles – both orphans – both no information other than name – Looks like “no connections” and may have been the user profiles originally. The only clue is the name of the GEDCOM Pioneer Stock.GED
Would like someone to verify my thought process to see if I make sense or if I should go another direction. Procedurally, it seems to make sense, but don’t have enough Wiki experience to see a potential problem in the making.
1. They serve no logical use
2. They should be merged away – but there does not seem to be anywhere to merge them
3. Adopt Both – merge them together – Now I have 1 (does not seem to be a reason why they should be adopted unless there is a 30-day wait?)
4. Remaining 1 could be:
a. used as an additional Burnside entry by just changing the name and adding information; or see if
b. an “Unknown with the same problems” exist elsewhere under the same (Burnside) surname; or
c. create it as an Unknown profile – then merge all (surname specific) garbage found into the one profile (with Garbage Notation). But then once you have worked the surname, what do you do with the Unk?; revert to step“a”???
It would seem that at least this would keep the original information as trackable under changes?
