Biography

Robert Abernathy born about 1695 married about 1718, Mary Howell/Harwell the daughter of Miles Harwell. Virginia archives holds records for land tracts patented to Robert before he removed to Tryon County North Carolina in the 1760s. His will was written January 31, 1772 in which he names all his children including his daughters married surnames. Unfortunately some transcriptions of his will on the internet often for one reason or another leave the daughters married names out. A transcription from "Abernethy or Abernathy family records" written by Mary Frances Urbahns nee Klipsch,[1] is shown here and a copy of the actual will is available from Tryon County ncgenweb.[2]

On December 19, 1722, a survey of 80 acres of land on both sides of Buckskin Creek was recorded for Roger. [3]This land was surveyed for Roger Abernathy by Robert Bolling [4] located on Buckskin Creek[5]
This land adjoined a land grant made to David Walker on 16 June 1727 Prince George County, Virginia. The description of Walker's land states: 217 acres on both sides of Buckskin Creek adjoining Roger Abernathy, Edward Roberson, &c.[6]

I found a digital image of the original will at Ancestry. Tryon Co., NC, only existed from 1768 to 1779. The will is filed in Lincoln Co., NC. Below is the link at Ancestry, if it's of any use.

Will of Robert Abernathy Senr of Tryon county and province of North Carolina. Lincoln Co., NC, Original Wills, written 31 Jan 1772, proved July Term 1772. Digital image at Ancestry.com - https://preview.tinyurl.com/v4d938a

The death date/place on this profile is a little misleading. Robert Abernathy died between 31 Jan 1772 (when the will was written) and some time in July 1772, when the will was proved. He didn't die in the town of Tryon which is in Polk Co., NC. He died in Tryon Co., which no longer exists.

This profile is PPP due to high number of duplicates.
Abernathy-719 and Abernathy-83 are not ready to be merged because: The first names are different. In my opinion Roger should be Robert. The birth dates are also different. There are a lot of errors. if these are corrected I will OK the match. Nancy Legge

Abernathy-719 and Abernathy-525 appear to represent the same person because: Given the note on Abernathy-525, it looks like these are probably a match.
Abernathy-83 and Abernathy-527 appear to represent the same person because: Similar birth dates, same death date, both have daughter named Mary May. Looks like two children may need merging, too. Thanks!

update: never mind. I don't think this Robert could be her father, nor can she have been born 1730 with a daughter born 1734 (according to profiles attached). I disconnected Abernathy-32 from Robert's wife Mary, changed birth/death info, & rejected the merge with Elizabeth b 1730 who married Charles Williams (Abernethy-339 & Abernathy-661).

Hi! I think this Robert may be the father of Elizabeth Abernathy - take a look at her profile & let me know what you think: Elizabeth Abernathy-32, b May 20, 1730 m Henry Dixon (please note that aside from Bristol Parish Register info with parents/birth date for Elizabeth, much of the profile's info is speculative - The Family of Lt. Col. Henry Dixon, by Scott K. Williams, seems to have some serious data issued, and it's the source for husband & children.
