John Quincy Adams (1815-1854) was the grandson of John Adams, second U.S. President.
Last voyage of the USS Albany:
Lieutenant John Quincy ADAMS was serving on the USS Albany during its final voyage along the coast of Venezuela when the ship and the whole crew were lost at sea (about 250 men). Wikipedia:USS Albany (1846) The ship arrived in Curacao on 7 September 1854 from La Guaira, Venezuela. After 2 days they left for Cartagena in Columbia. There was a report from a Curacao correspondent on 19 September 1854 stating that all the crew were well. The ship departed Aspinwall, Columbia on 28th or 29th of September 1854 on a voyage back to New York, but was never seen again. Although an extensive search for the vessel was done in the area, the ship was not found and it was finally given up for lost in January 1856.
John Quincy ADAMS has a monument in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. However due to the nature of his disappearance and probable death at sea it is unlikely he is buried in the cemetery, the stone was placed there for remembrance for the family.
