Biography

Notes: Mary was baptized September 20, 1741, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Card Allein (Allen or Allin[1]) [2]

On Nov. 9, 1762, she married Joshua Trefry, the son of John and Hannah Pitman Trefry of Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts[3], and they had children, including:

  1. Elizabeth, born September 9, 1774, who married Tufts of Halifax
  2. A daughter born July 1776, who died February 7, 1777
  3. Thomas, a twin, born January 19, 1778, who married Martha Allen
  4. Mark, a twin, born January 19, 1778, who married Mary Faulkner. Mark was the proprietor of a public house on Windsor Road. He and Mary had no children of their own, but adopted and raised his twin brother Thomas' children: Joshua, Zilpha and Jane
  5. Benjamin, born November 3, 1780, who married Rebecca Trask, daughter of Thomas Trask 1st
  6. William, born May 28, 1782, who married Elizabeth Ellenwood, daughter of Samuel.

About the year 1766, Capt. John Trefry and Capt. Joshua Pitman Trefry came from Marblehead to Chebogue and settled on Chebogue Point. In the grants of Yarmouth Township in 1767 Capt. John Trefry was allotted 2 shares, 1911 acres, and Capt. Joshua P. Trefry 1 share, 888 acres.[4]

No record of her death has yet been found. Since her husband died in Yarmouth, it appears reasonable to assume she died there too. do you have a source for Mary's date of death?

Research Notes

Some sources say Mary Allen or Ellen. Other sources say Mary Allen aka Mary Ellen. Ellen is not a surname of Yarmouth, NS. Another source refers to Mary Eleanor Allen. It is not much of a stretch to imagine that Mary Eleanor became shortened to the more endearing Mary Ellen. This is how I arrived at Mary Eleanor "Ellen" Allen. Doug Coldwell

Similarly her surname appears as Allein, Allin and Allen. The generally accepted spelling seems to be Allen, but it appears as Allein in her birth record, therefore this profile.

Allen-27192 and Allein-12 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate records. Merges of her husband and son Benjamin are also proposed
