Biography

Ursala Nancy (Ursly) Allen was born 16 FEB 1727 in Hanover County, Virginia.[citation needed][1][2]

She married Gideon Johnson (Johnston).

She died either 15 Sept 1805-09-15 in Edgefield NC or 4 May in Rockingham, NC.[citation needed] Someone else has suggested she died 2 OCT 1807 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina.

In the mid-1740s, at about age 30, Gideon Johnson married the mother of all his children, (Nancy) Ursula Allen/Allin (Feb. 16, 1728-c. 1807), the daughter of his Hanover Co. neighbors William and Mary Ann Owen Allin and granddaughter of Thomas Owen of Williamsburg, the colonial capital. Allen became a longstanding family given name.}[1]

Among children of record born to Gideon Johnson and his wife Ursula were: William Allen (1749), Gideon Jr. (1754), Abner (1757/9); Mordecai; Peter Benjamin (1766); (Mary) Ursula; Elizabeth; Nancy; Judith; and Naomi.

Most of the children were born in Nottoway Parish of Amelia or in neighboring Prince Edward and Lunenberg counties where Gideon owned properties that, like his father, exceeded 1,000 acres.

Where does Nathan Melton as a husband of Nancy [Ursly] Allen Johnson come from? If this profile were true, then Ursula Johnson would have separated from Gideon Johnson after 10 years of marriage. Yet there is no mention of divorce or of her younger children having a different father.

In the Johnson family history prepared by Randy McConnell [cited above], Gideon Johnson Sr is mentioned. McConnell's version of the family says, "Among children of record born to Gideon Johnson and his wife Ursula were: William Allen (1749), Gideon Jr. (1754), Abner (1757/9); Mordecai; Peter Benjamin (1766); (Mary) Ursula; Elizabeth; Nancy; Judith; and Naomi."

Nathan Melton presumably married a Nancy Allen, but there is no convincing evidence that these are the same person. Would it not be more consistent with what is known so far to remove Nathan Melton as a second husband of Nancy Ursula Allen Johnson?

Allen-5614 and Allen-2804 appear to represent the same person because: Mother lived and died in Virginia. So the birthplace of Virginia is more plausible. Husband died in North Carolina 4 years before wife. NC is the most likely place of death since Allen-5614 lacks sources.

These are duplicates. Please merge.

Allen-17238 and Allen-2804 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband
