Called "Mine Lick" as in the area in Putnam county known by same moniker or the Post office designation A1
Came with his parents to White County, TN about 1811 and settled between Cane Creek and Mine Lick Creek. He became known as Mine Lick Joe because he lived on Mine Lick Creek, and to distinguish him from his cousin - Joseph Stuart Allison- who was known as Hog Joe. Uncle Mine Lick was a fund of information and many of his original and eccentric sayings and doings are current legend for miles around his old home-Walter S. McClain in History of Putnam County
Margaret Allison remembers him fondly in her memoirs. She says he was always dressed finely. He used to play with the grandchildren with his "hoss" or his cane.
He married Cynthia Stone and had 11 children. He remarried, Elvina Eldridge after Cynthia's Death - and they had 3 children. He is buried in the Allison Cemetary - Putnam County, TN[1]
