Berry Leonidas Alvis was born in 1919 in Silverton, Briscoe County, Texas, the son of Clovis Leonidas Alvis and Ruth Salome Bull Alvis and the brother of Viva Laura and Ned Jewitt. Berry married Winifred Maudie Woods in Austin, Travis County, Texas on September 29, 1940. Winifred was born in Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas on December 25, 1916. They had two daughters, Mary Ellen (Overstreet) and Ruthie Jo (Stamnitz). Berry's paternal ancestors were early Texas settlers in Hopkins, Fisher, and Haskell Counties. His maternal ancestors were early Texas settlers initially in Falls County having migrated from Lauderdale County, Mississippi.
Berry was a member of the Greatest Generation and served his Country in WWII in the United States Navy.
Buried in the Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Austin, Travis County Texas.
