John Bailey Jr. immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
JOHN BAILEY, Jr., born in England, 1613, came to New England with his father in 1635.[1] He may have been born 1613-07-22 in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England.[2]
Bayly, John was christened 19 Dec 1613 Bromham, Wiltshire, son of "John Bayly the younger and Anne Bayly his wife." [3]
He married, before the birth of their first child in 1641,[4][5]Eleanor Emery,[6] the sister of John and Ann Emery [but Emery Genealogy does not include her unless she is the female "Ebenezer" Emery, but that person married someone else; see Emery Genealogy].[7]
John Jr traveled to North America with his father John on the ill-fated "Angel Gabriel". They landed at Pemaquid in the District of Maine where they had cargo to unload for the trading post there. They were invited to spend the night on shore and most everyone did. That evening a storm hit and the "Angel Gabriel" was lost. It has never been found. [8]
He settled in Newbury, Mass., 1650, on the plain, about a quarter of a mile from Deer Island and opposite Carr Island. He had formerly lived in Salisbury.
He died shortly before 05 March 1690/1 when an inventory of the estate of "John Bayley, late of Newbury," was taken and exhibited at court on 31 March 1691.[9]
The will of John Bailey of Newbury[10] was written December 30, 1690, and proved March 31, 1691 which he signed with his mark. Bradbury except four acres sold to Mr. Goodin; to his daughters Rebecca Brown, Sarah Cheney and Rachel Poor: 5s. each.[11]
