Biography

Dr Isaac Hite “Hite” Baldwin

Called an "Old Country Doctor" by author T.K. Cartmell, Isaac Hite Baldwin, son of Dr. Cornelius Baldwin and Nelly Conway, nee Hite, b. 1813[1] obtained his medical degree Penn Medical College in Philadelphia in 1834. [2]

He came from a family-line of doctors; his parents were, Dr. Cornelius E. Baldwin and Nelly Conway (Hite) of Belle Grove, the niece of President James Madison. His grandfather, Dr. Cornelius Baldwin had served in the American Revolution as a surgeon.

Dr. 'Hite' served in the military (1837-1841). He was appointed Assistant Surgeon in the U.S. Army. He served through the Florida Seminole Wars (Tampa), but resigned and made his home in Frederick County, VA, where he died, leaving a widow, but no children.[1]
